Hacking Habitual Success

Why embracing practises such as meditation feels like mission impossible and how you can change that.

In today’s hustle culture, where productivity reigns supreme, the idea of meditation can feel like a detour on the fast track to success. With our minds wired for constant activity and achievement, slowing down to meditate may seem counterintuitive. After all, why take a break from hustling when every moment counts toward chasing our dreams and achieving our goals, right?

While making something like meditation a habit may seem daunting, understanding the psychological factors at play can help us overcome obstacles and cultivate lasting change. I haven’t always been into meditation. I used to live in a fast-paced world, always on the go. No wonder I got so close to burnout. My first introduction to meditation came out of necessity. I needed to slow down, find another path, and rest. That’s why I saw a need to help others uncover a path by just adding One-minute meditations to their everyday routine.

My secret was to start simple. Forming habits takes patience, persistence and a willingness to embrace discomfort in pursuit of long-term wellbeing.

Establishing a habit is like building a muscle; it takes consistent practice. However, our brains are wired to seek efficiency, and breaking old habit loops like mindless scrolling while establishing a new meditation routine requires eff ort and repetition. It’s a bit like choosing between a quick sugar rush and a nutritious meal. Meditation off ers long-term benefi ts like stress reduction and improved focus, but it doesn’t provide the immediate gratifi cation of scrolling through social media or indulging in comfort food.

If any of this resonates with you or if you are feeling ready to make a change, read my top 10 tips for making meditation a habit for good.

Start small: Begin with tiny, manageable changes. Sit to meditate for just one-minute per day as the practice of sitting is powerful within itself. Gradually increase the diffi culty as the habit of sitting becomes more ingrained.

Set clear goals: Defi ne what you want to achieve with this habit. Having clear, specifi c objectives makes it easier to stay motivated.

Be consistent: Establish a regular routine. Consistency is key to forming a habit, so try to perform your new behaviour at the same time and place every day.

Track your progress: Keep a journal or use an app to monitor your progress. Tracking your actions and improvements can boost motivation and provide a sense of accomplishment.

Find accountability: Share your goals with friends, family, or a support group. Being held accountable can help you stay committed to your habit.

Reward yourself: Treat yourself to something enjoyable (like a massage or a new book) when you reach milestones or stick to your habit consistently.

Tie your meditation into another routine: Keeping things simple is something I apply to everything, even my skincare routine. Natio Men Plus off ers the perfect active routine, providing advanced anti-aging solutions in a simple routine with botanical-based formulas and packed with active ingredients. I make meditation a part of this routine.

Stay positive: Focus on the benefi ts of your new habit rather than dwelling on any setbacks. Maintain a positive attitude to keep yourself motivated.

Practise mindfulness: Pay attention to how your habit makes you feel. Mindfulness can help you stay present and fully engage with the activity, reinforcing its importance.

Adjust as needed: Be flexible and willing to adapt your approach if necessary. If something isn’t working, experiment with different strategies until you fi nd what works for you.

Forming a new habit takes time and eff ort. Don’t get discouraged by setbacks or slow progress. Stay patient and keep moving forward. Establishing a habit requires a shift in mindset — from viewing meditation as a chore or obligation to seeing it as a gift we give ourselves. Like changing the lens through which we see the world, embracing meditation as a positive habit takes time and conscious effort — and this conscious effort will pay dividends in all areas of your life.
